Here he is simply conveying a message that the love is dying by the day, coz they lost all that should supplement the love to keep it fresh and alive, now love alone is proving not to be enough, to such an extent that he doesnt feel it even when he has the girl in his arms.Everything has just become dry and soaked under the earth.The vibe is all gone and he just cant believe that they are still together in that state of things.
Of coz he is still attached to this girl perhaps coz of what they share and for some reason he just cant picture them being apart,but clearly the love is going down the drain. he wants to leave and the girl wants to leave also but the love is keeping them together, but he acknowledges they arent gonna last.
