Mar 2nd 2012!⃝This song is about a serial killer from Possum Kingdom Lake, Texas, who becomes romantically involved with his victims before he kills them. He asks this particular victim on a seemingly innocent walk around the lake, where he is hiding a "dark secret."
He then confesses his love to her while keeping his true intentions latent. When he says:
"I can promise you, you will stay as beautiful with dark hair and soft skin forever,"
there is a double meaning. To the victim, the narrator is making a wildly romantic promise, but we know that he means that her hair will never gray and her skin will never wrinkle because she'll die first.
The song ends with him asking her if she wants to die, and finishes with the refrain, "so help me Jesus." Again there is double meaning. To the victim, he is making the ultimate assurance that he will treat her well, but we know that this is not credible coming from a "Backslider," as discussed in the previous song of the album.
