May 15th 2020!⃝This song resurfaced on my memory because of a Facebook challenge of listing albums that inspired me in the past. This was my favorite song years ago but I never really knew what the song meant. Guess I'm not alone. I used to think it about a guy having cold feet at his wedding day. But not any more. I that that would be taking the song too literal. The same for if this guy likes a nun or about priesthood.
So, here goes my current interpretation ...
I think this song is about the relationship between a woman who is more religious than the guy. I see as she thinks of him as a friend and has invited him to go to church on Sunday. He tried to fake it. To pretend he's believes in going to church. Also to pretend that it's okay for them being just friends. But he admits that he can't do either. He likes her too much as he keeps on thinking about her. Despite trying to play it cool keeping his distance like just a friend, he still hopes she shows a sign of more than just a friend.
