You'll hear a lot of other people say this as well, but the song revolves around a girl named Maggie, who was sold into the sex trafficking business so her mom, who's a drug addict, could buy drugs (candy) when Maggie was 5. She thinks it is normal until she gets older and starts to realise it isn't. She tries to escape, succeeds, and finds herself struggling to live a normal life. She finds herself a boyfriend who doesn't know about her past, and she has a hard time trying to find out how to tell him because she's scared of how he will react. A lot of people has said she's died, but I don't think so. I think the lines that made some thought she committed suicide are actually showing how when she was running away (cause she hurt herself really badly running away) she had made it out into the real world, and collapsed out of exhaustion, and the last thing she remembers seeing beforehand is the bright light of the public world, and she thinks she has died, but she had just collapsed from exhaustion and was taken to the hospital.
