I interpret this song as Robbie (cave town)s experience with gender dysphoria.

In the opening line 'often I am upset that I cannot fall in love' we see Robbie struggle with falling in love which may be due to the fact that he is trans. As I trans person I have first hand experience with dating when you are transgender and it is definitely harder to be in relationships when you are trans due to transphobia etc.

"I will cut my hair, to make you stare, I'll hide my chest' is a direct link to transitioning as most trans masculine peoples first steps are to cut their hair and hide their chest as an attempt to present more masculine and limit gender dysphoria/to pass more masculine.

"I can't really think right now in this place, there's too many colours" links to how when you are a part of the community you are constantly having labels/pride flags thrown at you and it can feel overwhelming. Hence the 'enough to drive all of us insane' that follows shortly afterwards

'Sometimes I think im dead [...] but I don't wanna fall asleep just yet [..] little do we know the stars welcome him with open arms' refers to the shockingly high transgender su!c!de rates (82% of all transgender individuals have considered su!c!de)

'get a load of this monster [...] his hairs a mess and he doesn't know who he is yet' refers to how trans people are often seen as freaks or monsters. it also refers to how he doesn't know he is yet as in he is struggling to label his gender accurately.

The ending line 'but strangely he feels at home in this place' shows how he finally feels welcome post transition and it feels slightly strange as he has never experienced it before.

This is all my opinion however I do believe it lines up very well with the song lyrics.
