She was the flower girl in the wedding, hence when Jesse Lacey says "Get your petals out and lay them in the aisle." A man who had consumed three times the legal limit of alcohol (in New York) was driving and hit the limousine, killing Katie and the limo driver: "We found your man he's drinking up, he's all-american. And he'll drive. He's volunteered with grace to end your life." The lyrics "And I, one more night to be your mother." Are symbolizing the position of Katie's mother.
